Historical Documentary Exhibition of the Italian Red Cross in Florence
Twenty Years of Change: 2003-2023 – A Journey through the History and Evolution of the Red Cross
An Exhibition to Celebrate Two Decades of Humanitarian Commitment
The Italian Red Cross Florence Committee is celebrating its 20th anniversary with a special event: the historical-documentary exhibition “Twenty Years of Change: 2003-2023.” Scheduled from Nov. 25, the exhibition will be held at the impressive Palazzo Capponi, becoming a window into the past and present of humanitarianism.
A History of Service and Dedication
The exhibition offers a unique journey through documents, photographs, postcards, postal history, medals, badges and more. These memorabilia not only represent the memory of the Florentine Committee over the past 20 years, but are also a tribute to all the men and women who have worked under the Red Cross emblem, helping to save lives and assist those in need in the territory for more than 160 years.
The Birth and Evolution of a Humanitarian Institution
The exhibition is also an opportunity to reflect on the origins of the Florentine Committee of the Red Cross, one of the first branches established in Italy. Initially founded as the “Italian Association for Relief to the Wounded and Sick in War,” the committee has gone through a significant transformation, becoming an integral part of the Italian Red Cross and bearing witness to its unceasing commitment to humanitarian relief.
Collaboration and Collecting to Spread Humanitarian Values
The event sees renewed collaboration with the Italian Red Cross Thematic Collectors Association “Ferdinando Palasciano.” The association, through collecting items such as stamps, coins and medals depicting the Red Cross symbol, is dedicated to spreading the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
A Special Inauguration Day
On opening day, Nov. 25, the Temporary Post Office will be present for philatelic cancellation, offering visitors the opportunity to purchase thematic philatelic products. The Italian Red Cross has created a philatelic folder with four souvenir cards for the occasion, a rich contribution to philatelic history related to humanitarianism.
Useful Visiting Information
The exhibition will be open to the public free of charge from Nov. 25 to Nov. 30 (excluding Nov. 26), from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the CRI Florence headquarters in Palazzo Capponi. This exhibition is not only a cultural event, but also a time to reflect on the importance of humanitarian work and the challenges that the Red Cross has faced and continues to face over time.
