Double intervention of the rescue services in the Apennines of Reggio Emilia

Elderly man ill and fireman injured in accident: busy days for rescuers

Particularly challenging days for the rescuers of the Apennines, called to intervene on two separate episodes that have put a hard test on the efficiency of the emergency system: the first at Vetto and the second at the Pietra di Bismantova.

Eighty-year-old caught ill during work in the countryside

In the early afternoon, an atmosphere of tranquility was abruptly interrupted by a distress call from Vetto. An 80-year-old man was struck down while collecting wood with his brother in a forest near the Enza stream. The emergency services were alerted and several teams intervened on the spot, including the ambulance of the Cri Scurano, the fire brigade, the medical team of Castelnovo Monti and the helicopter rescue team of Parma. The elderly, after receiving initial treatment on site, was taken to the Santa Maria Nuova hospital in Reggio Emilia for further examinations.

Incident on the path Cai: fireman injured

Almost simultaneously, another dramatic episode occurred on the Bismantova Stone. A firefighter was injured in an accident on the Cai 699 path of the Bismantova Stone. The man, engaged in a survey activity aimed at preventing forest fires, overturned with the quad on which he was traveling. On the spot, the colleagues of the injured firefighter, the alpine rescue and the helicopter rescue in Ravenna have intervened. Given the severity of the injuries, emergency transport to hospital was necessary. The man was transported to Santa Maria Nuova in Reggio Emilia for treatment.

The timeliness of relief

Both events highlighted the importance of an efficient and coordinated rescue system, capable of intervening quickly even in areas difficult to reach. The timeliness of the intervention, the professionalism of the rescuers and the synergy between the different operating teams made it possible to provide first aid to patients and transport them safely to hospital.
