Alpine Volunteers Engaged for 72 Hours in Emergency Simulation: A Real Test for ANA Civil Protection

Around 200 volunteers, with specialized teams from various Lombard Alpine sections, gathered in the mountain area of Camaggiore for an unprecedented exercise: “Unitas 2024.” The relentless commitment of 72 hours saw the ANA Civil Protection of Lecco, led by the “A. Merlini” Unit, collaborating with the Municipality of Bellano and the Mountain Community of Valsassina Val Varrone, Val d’Esino e Riviera.

Simulation and Preparation

The main objective of the exercise was to test the operational capabilities of volunteers in complex and prolonged emergency situations. With adverse weather conditions, wildfires, and evacuations of school facilities, the event simulated a wide range of scenarios. Thorough preparation, including previous training and attention to logistical details, made the success of “Unitas 2024” possible.

Collaboration and Results

The commitment of logistical teams, telecommunications, search and rescue units, and medical units demonstrated the importance of collaboration among different groups and effectiveness in addressing crisis situations. The ANA sections of Como, Milan, Alto Lario – Colico, and Valtellina also contributed to the success of the exercise, highlighting the value of solidarity among the various Alpine communities.

Gratitude and Prospects

The president of the Lecco black feathers, Emiliano Invernizzi, expressed profound gratitude to the volunteers for their commitment and emphasized the importance of ANA Civil Protection in serving the community. The accolades received from Severino Bassanese, delegate to the national coordination of Civil Protection of the Alpine Association, confirm the importance of ongoing training and preparation initiatives to address future challenges in security and civil protection.
