Covid: new wave in Europe and the return of masks
The WHO has issued an alert, calling on citizens to take precautions such as wearing masks
Covid-19 is back in Europe. Despite hopes of a return to normality, infections are on the rise, mainly due to the spread of new variants of the virus. The World Health Organization (WHO) has issued an alert, urging citizens not to lower their guard and to resume certain precautions, such as the use of masks.
Why are cases increasing?
There are several reasons for the rise in infections. These include:
- New variants: SARS-CoV-2 virus variants, such as the so-called FLiRT (JN.1, KP.2, KP.3 and KP.3.1.1), are spreading rapidly, proving to be more transmissible than previous ones
- Relaxation of measures: With the relaxation of restrictions and the return to social life, opportunities for contact between people have increased, facilitating the spread of the virus
- Decreased immunity: Immunity acquired through vaccination or natural infection may decrease over time, making people more susceptible to infection
What to do to protect yourself?
The WHO recommends that precautions be taken again to contain the spread of the virus:
- Wearing the mask: Especially in indoor and crowded environments, the use of the mask, preferably FFP2 or N95 type, can significantly reduce the risk of infection
- Wash your hands often: A simple but effective gesture to eliminate viruses from your hands and prevent contamination
- Maintain social distancing: Try to keep a safe distance from other people, especially in crowded places
- Complete the vaccination cycle: Vaccination remains the most effective tool to prevent serious disease
- Test for symptoms: If you have symptoms compatible with COVID-19 (fever, cough, breathing difficulties, loss of smell and taste), it is important to undergo a swab to confirm or rule out the infection
Living with the covid
It is difficult to predict with certainty how the situation will develop. However, experts agree that COVID-19 will continue to circulate for a long time. For this reason, it is crucial to keep your guard up and behave responsibly.
Collaboration and responsibility: the solution for everyone’s health
The return of the Covid alarm reminds us that the pandemic is not over. It is important to follow the directions of health authorities and work together to contain the spread of the virus and protect the most vulnerable people.
