Panic attacks: do psychotropic drugs solve the problem?
The World Health Organisation has crowned panic attack disorder the most important one in existence, as more than 20 per cent of people suffer from it and the numbers are constantly growing
Can panic attacks be cured?
Often, people with panic attack disorder have a great awareness of their problem and its causes.
Usually these people know and have it all figured out, their inability lies in actually doing something different.
Regaining possession of one’s life and getting back to feeling well in the shortest possible time is a need strongly felt by those affected by this problem, as it is highly painful and disabling, turning life into a prison of avoidance, precautions and dependence, but often the idea prevails that to resolve the disorder, especially if it has been present for so long, a long and painful psychological journey is necessary, or that it is not even possible to heal it definitively: these ideas are completely unfounded.
Sometimes, the person relies totally on the use of psychotropic drugs, seen as a magic potion that will definitively solve the problem, which, instead, often become a crutch on which the person will lean all his or her life.
Psychopharmaceuticals may be supportive at a specific and limited time in life, but do they definitively and effectively resolve the panic attacks?
The most effective treatment to overcome panic disorder.
Brief Strategic Therapy is considered the ‘best practice’ for the treatment of phobias and panic attacks.
It is a focal pathway, which, through the use of strategies and forms of refined suggestion, aims at resolving the problem quickly (out of a sample of more than 3,600 cases treated, 86% with peaks of 95% of cases were resolved with an average of 7 sessions), helping the person to move from a suffered reality to a managed reality.
