Twenty-four-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring: with the patient’s cooperation, the available equipment enables a 24-hour recording of systolic and diastolic blood pressure values to be organised
24-hour blood pressure monitoring: What does it consist of?
The patient is provided with a small bag containing the equipment for recording via the classic cuff that is placed just above the elbow.
The equipment is set up with a computer to which it can be connected via a serial port or an infrared connection.
The setting involves measuring at intervals of 15 minutes during the day and 290 at night.
Once connected to the patient, the latter is informed about the operation of the instrument.
The patient is also given a hypertension diary in which he or she can note down the activities carried out. These small details will help the doctor in the evaluation of the tracings that will take place the next day.
The next day, after the recording has been made, it will be possible, by connecting the computer and the instrument, to check the data collected over 24 hours and assess the extent of the hypertensive disorder in the patient.
