What is Impedance Testing (Impedenzometry)?
The impedance measurement test is a test, generally carried out by an ENT specialist, through which information about the state of health and function of the ear is obtained
What is the purpose of the impedance test?
This test allows us to assess the elasticity of the eardrum and the chain of ossicles responsible for hearing function; it is therefore useful for diagnosing possible middle ear disorders.
It can also be used to monitor the progress of a prescribed therapy.
Who can perform the impedance test?
This test can be carried out without any difficulty by both adults and children.
However, individuals with perforation of the tympanic membrane or acute otitis of the middle ear cannot undergo it.
Is the impedance test painful or dangerous?
The test is not invasive, it is not dangerous and the patient feels no pain while it is being performed.
How is the impedance test performed?
The test is carried out by inserting a cone inside the ear from which a sound pressure of varying magnitude is emitted that moves the eardrum and the chain of ossicles attached to it.
Based on the test results, the specialist will be able to detect any disturbances in hearing perception and understand the nature of the hearing problem.
