A vehicle of the latest generation and, for this reason, equipped with excellent driving safety even in adverse weather and road conditions.
The set-up developed by Mariani Fratelli for the Crafter is the Rescue Star, a version designed specifically for large vehicles
This version includes technological innovations for interior furnishings and the possibility of customizing the rescue vehicle according to your needs.
Great attention has also been paid to the environmental sanitization of the ambulance.
But what are the peculiarities and strengths of the Volkswagen Crafter?

Mariani Fratelli has always set up Volkswagen rescue vehicles. What peculiarities of mechanics, electronics and aerodynamics persuaded you to make this choice?
We refer to the new Crafter, which has been the real novelty of recent years in terms of LCV vans intended for the preparation of special vehicles for the emergency.
One of the salient features of the vehicle is that it has, if required, Volkswagen’s Syncro permanent all-wheel drive which, together with the latest generation A.D.A.S. aids, increases the driving safety characteristics even in very demanding climatic and road conditions with a limited increase in the weight of the vehicle.
Being a latest-generation vehicle, it is equipped with a system completely based on CAN-BUS with the possibility of interfacing our electrical systems such as to allow the integration of control functions based on the information extrapolated from the vehicle itself.
The larger size compared to the traditional ambulance will certainly have called you new choices: what elements characterize the interior design of the Crafter?
The availability of a longer length of the sanitary compartment has made it possible to rationalize the realization of the interior furnishing elements in all the operating areas.
This tendershows a good modularity of the individual artifacts such as to allow our customers to develop, when ordering, a customized set-up according to the needs and their modus operandi which, as we know, is very varied in the world of Italian rescuers.
Particular mention should be made of the composite monobloc pavilion that covers the sky of the sanitary compartment and integrates in a synthesis of elegance and functionality, many of the most important functions directly controllable by the new touch-screen electronic panels:
- ventilation/ventilation
- air conditioning with ducting and flow distribution
- High efficiency LED lighting for diffused light, concentrated spot lights and built-in night light.
- distribution point for oxygen therapy with descent from above on patient head.
- foamed support handles, two front and two rear
- supports for infusion bottles of all kinds and sizes
With what technical and innovative solutions, was the Crafter rescue van designed?
In the realization of the preparation of the new Crafter we have poured all our know-how with the new modular electrical systems, based on Can-Bus and equipped with command and control units with touch-screen configurable according to different scenarios.
In addition to the intuitive and rational proposition of the main functions and the total vision of the fundamental parameters, they also allow remote diagnostics.
Particular attention has been paid to the issue of environmental sanitation.
In this regard, an additional stage has been introduced on the air conditioning system based on the action of photocatalysis for the treatment of flows circulating in the sanitary compartment and usable in a continuous cycle throughout the service phase.
To this, a sanitizer can be added to be activated when the vehicle is stationary based on the action of ozone.
In addition, we have a sophisticated system for maintaining negative pressure in the sanitary compartment for the further preservation of the crew from possible infectious contamination.
I also mention our new SMART AMBULANCE project now in an advanced state of implementation, developed thanks to an R&D call from the Tuscany Region and which we will present at REAS in 2023 for which I only briefly refer to some technologically innovative aspects such as:
- Active noise reduction for crews and patient
- Integrated management of the services provided by smart ambulance with the advanced systems of SMART CITY
- Use of a latest-generation drone to aid particularly demanding intervention scenarios not only from the point of view of patient treatment with health and logistics payload transport in inaccessible and difficult to reach places but also to support telecommunications and send images and videos to the crew and operations centers
- Increased on-board functionality with the use of HUD (Head Up Display) in aid of the driver and co-driver
- New ABS interior again for the Crafter
What advantages can rescue associations and 118 derive from this vehicle?
In light of the above, the associations and operations centers that use their own means for the emergency, with the new Crafter will be able to take advantage of a latest generation vehicle.
With our fittings, in fact, it represents the state of the art in our sector and contributes to maintaining the placement of Mariani Fratelli at the top of the manufacturers of ambulances and medical vehicles in general.
This allows users to have all the advantages of using the nutechnologies with our usual reliability and safety.
