The First Eye-Responsive Progressive Lens Born By Behavioural Artificial Intelligence
EssilorLuxottica, constantly engaged in the research and design of visual solutions increasingly performing, launched in May – Varilux® XR Series has, the new and innovative progressive lens: based on a predictive model and the analysis of behaviour profile and movements of the wearer.
Aim? Expanding the product offering, focusing on premium and differentiating technologies, to allow Optical Centers partners to strengthen and extend their business with cutting-edge proposals that meet the needs of today’s consumers, that seek instant sharpness, even in motion1.
And it is precisely to meet this real need that the Varilux® XR series™ is born, a lens with an incredible technological heart, designed through artificial intelligence. For the first time, EssilorLuxottica researchers have harnessed the power of AI by analyzing more than 1 million data from exclusive research, in-store postural measurements, real-life testing and wearer behavior.
Thanks to the extended volume of broadband vision, this lens is the first eye-responsive progressive lens – extremely reactive to the natural eye movements, which are about 100,0002 per day – integrate the visual behavior of wearers (gaze lowering and object distances) thereby responding to how their eyes really move. This ensure sharp and fluid vision.
Artificial intelligence is combined with the study of the lifestyles of more than 6000 wearers, with the promise of changing and improving the visual performance of wearers. The technological process is fascinating: creating a digital twin, that is a digital twin of the wearer, within a 3D3 environment to predict the models of observation, criteria of vision sharpness, perception of space, postural comfort.
«The power of artificial intelligence lies in the quantity, quality and variety of data and how they are calculated,” says Alessandra Barzaghi, Marketing Director Lenses Wholesale Italy at EssilorLuxottica. “Our Research Center, drawing from multiple sources, has managed to collect over a million data points to develop an innovative behavioral modeling system that can predict how presbyters will look at objects around them, as a result, they will move their eyes. The definition of the new predictive models combined with XR Motion technology has allowed us to create the first progressive lens Varilux ³ Eye-responsive4».
The Varilux® XR Series is a truly futuristic concentrate of technology – the first on the market – able to predict and adapt perfectly to the natural eye behavior of the wearers, who will therefore benefit from instant sharpness even in motion5, with a higher volume of broadband vision than Varilux® X series™ lens 49%6. Varilux® XR series™ with a seamless ocular navigation between 30cm and infinity. The tests carried out by third parties also revealed a high degree of satisfaction in the various conditions of use, underlining the ability of these lenses to respect the promise they were born for: changing the visual performance of the wearer.
