The death toll from Typhoon “Glenda” climbed to 54 after more fatalities were reported in Calabarzon, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Friday. A total of 167,293 families and 882.326 persons were affected in the Philipines. 525.791 were dispaced and served inside 1200 evacuation centers.
According to the agency’s latest data, Calabarzon was the region that suffered the most number of fatalities with 54. Most of the deaths were caused by falling trees and debris. The other fatalities recorded were from Metro Manila and the regions of Central Luzon, Mimaropa, Bicol Western Visayas and Eastern Visayas.

The number of injured people also rose to 100. Of this figure, 75 individuals were from Quezon province alone. Two people in Calabarzon and another in Mimaropa remain missing, the NDRRMC said. The typhoon’s cost of damage to infrastructure and agriculture also increased to P892 million and P4.5 billion, respectively. The NDRRMC said Glenda damaged 26,259 houses, over 7,000 of which was destroyed. A total of 19 roads and three bridges were also rendered impassable due to incurred damage and flooding. Albay, Camarines Sur, Samar, Laguna, Naga City and Obando, Bulacan had all been declared under a state of calamity.

Four provinces and 65 municipalities have been experiencing power outages. In Quezon province, power has yet to be restored to 99 percent of the area.
