Anpas Piemonte: States General for the future of voluntary health work

Over 200 participants to discuss training, civil protection and Universal Civil Service

On 14 October, at the Auditorium of the Ferrero Foundation in Alba, in the heart of Piedmont, an event of great resonance in the world of voluntary health work will take place: the Stati Generali delle Pubbliche Assistenze Anpas. With more than 200 registered participants, this convention represents a crucial moment of confrontation between Public Assistance leaders and regional institutions. Among those present to bring their greetings was the Anpas national president, Niccolò Mancini.

The day of the Stati Generali delle Pubbliche Assistenze will be divided into two distinct parts. In the morning, at 10.30 a.m., after the institutional greetings, a plenary Round Table will be held. This moment will allow for an in-depth discussion of topics of great interest, focusing on health and social policies in relation to the fundamental contribution of voluntary work in the health and social welfare field. Participants will include the president of Anpas Piemonte, Andrea Bonizzoli, the regional councillor for health, Luigi Genesio Icardi, the president of Ires Piemonte, Michele Rosboch, and the commissioner of Azienda Sanitaria Zero, Carlo Picco.

In the afternoon, a representative group of volunteers from Anpas Public Assistance, an organisation that in Piedmont counts 81 member associations with over 10,000 volunteers, will divide into thematic working groups. These groups will deal with crucial topics such as training, volunteering and civil protection, the communication of values, the interest of young people and civil service, as well as training needs and future projects.

The Anpas Piedmont Regional Committee is a reality of extraordinary importance, representing 81 voluntary associations with over 10,000 volunteers, 4,122 of whom are women. These associations operate with extraordinary commitment, providing vital services to the community. Their services include medical transport, emergency relief and civil protection, as well as playing a key role in the Universal Civil Service.

Anpas is now the largest lay voluntary association in Italy, with 937 Public Assistances in all regions. The numbers are impressive: 487,128 supporting members, 100,409 trained volunteers, 2,377 young people in Universal Civil Service and 4,837 employees. The more than 8,781 available vehicles, including ambulances, social service vehicles and civil defence vehicles, allow 570,082 services per year, totalling 18,784,626 kilometres travelled.

The contribution of Anpas Public Assistance is fundamental for the Italian health system, with 40% of the country’s health transport managed by these organisations. The Stati Generali delle Pubbliche Assistenze Anpas represents a crucial opportunity to celebrate their commitment and discuss the future challenges of voluntary health and welfare work in Italy.
