Chile experienced last Saturday, 7 January, the annual SAMU Reanimator Day
SAMU Reanimator Day: Chile’s Health Minister, Ximena Aguilera, celebrates Resuscitation Day
The Minister of Health, Ximena Aguilera, together with the Undersecretary for Care Networks, Fernando Araos, visited the Metropolitan SAMU hospital, located in the municipality of Providencia, to send a greeting to all ambulance crews on Reanimator Day.
On the occasion, the country’s highest health authority recalled that the public health system had ambulances equipped with resuscitation equipment 30 years ago.
“It is likely that we all need this assistance from SAMU, it is a service that has universal coverage in the sense that anyone who needs it will use this pre-hospital care service and, regardless of what the prognosis is, will receive this attention that is vital to save lives in different circumstances,” Minister Aguilera pointed out.
Meanwhile, the undersecretary for Care Networks, Fernando Araos, was happy to return to ‘his home’, as he was director of SAMU Metropolitano during 2015 and 2017.
The sector authority expressed that during these 3 decades, “this group of professional midwives, nurses, and nurses to be part of the pre-hospital care team and not only street care but also high-complexity transfer, which undoubtedly has been so important in responding nationally to the emergency of COVID-19″.
In this direction, said Undersecretary Araos, “more than two hundred aeromedical evacuations were carried out, with professionals who were trained. and who managed to generate that the entire network from Arica to Magallanes could function in an integrated manner by transferring the different patients”.
The head of Redes Asistenciales urged the population to make good use of SAMU’s emergency line 131 as ‘there is a significant number of calls or wrong calls and it is important that the population uses these phones responsibly.
There are between 2,000 and 3,000 calls that Metropolitan SAMU alone responds to on a daily basis, using their basic and advanced mobile phones.
Bivalent vaccination in Chile
As part of Reanimator Day, the Minister of Health, Ximena Aguilera, urged the target population to go to vaccination centres to be inoculated with the bivalent vaccine against SARS-CoV-2, with particular attention to people with chronic diseases.
The Head of Health emphasised that ‘people over the age of sixty are those who have most complied with the bivalent vaccination’.
With regard to the annual vaccination campaign against COVID-19, the highest health authority indicated that the Vaccine Advisory Council has been asked to analyse the option of lowering the age for administering the bivalent formula, while the Ministry of Health will carry out a re-launch of the vaccination campaign with greater emphasis on the location of inoculation centres.
