As far as the spread of Covid cases is concerned, ‘in the 6-11 age group there has been a greater increase in incidence since the second week of October than in the rest of the school-age population, with a surge in recent weeks.
In the last week there has also been a surge in the incidence for the 16-19 years age group”.
Thus the Istituto Superiore di Sanità- ISS in its weekly extended report (national update of 28 December 2021, published on 31 December 2021).

“In the last week, an increase in incidence is observed in all age groups: in particular, the incidence in the 12-19 years old population reaches that of the <12 years old age group,” reports the ISS.
“In the last week, the trend observed in the previous week was confirmed, with 24% of total cases diagnosed in the school-age population (<20 years),” the Report states.
42% of school-age cases were diagnosed in the 6-11 age group, 43% in the 12-19 age group, and only 10% and 5% were diagnosed between 3 and 5 years and under 3 years respectively”.
