Italy / Bad weather, in Emilia-Romagna red alert also for 19 May for landslides and floods
Bad weather, it is red alert in Emilia-Romagna: the scare for 19 May is above all possible landslides and river flooding
Bad weather in Emilia-Romagna, red alert: 13 dead, around 10,000 displaced
Emilia-Romagna remains on red alert for Friday 19 May.
Not so much for new rainfall on the way (which is not expected to be very heavy), but for the risk of landslides and river flooding.
For the day, in fact, ‘weak rainfall is expected in the central-western sector,’ writes the regional civil protection in the bulletin issued.
“The red hydraulic and hydrogeological criticality on the Bolognese and Romagna areas is due to the serious criticalities already present on the territory,” it explains.
For 19 May, therefore, “the propagation of the floods already underway in the valley stretches of all the watercourses in the central-eastern sector of the region is expected, with occupation of the floodplains and involvement of the banks, progressively decreasing,” it reads.
From the hydrogeological point of view, moreover, “widespread instability will be possible in the mountainous/hilly central-eastern areas of the region, where conditions will remain favourable to the development of landslides due to sliding and flowing along the slopes characterised by fragile hydrogeological conditions and to the worsening of the numerous landslides that have already been triggered following the rainfall of the past few days.
In addition, localised landslide phenomena will be possible in the western mountain-hill areas’.
Today, in the meantime, the head of the National Civil Protection, Fabrizio Curcio, is expected to visit Emilia-Romagna, following the ministers who have followed in recent days.
