NFL, on-field collapse for Damar Hamlin: shock for Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals players
The first quarter was being played when the 24-year-old defensive lineman collapsed to the ground: an executed tackle probably caused his cardiac arrest.
The Monday Night Football crowd and players fell into an astonished and worried silence.
Aid from the medical personnel present was immediate and probably saved the life of the player, who is unfortunately in a critical condition.
Almost instantaneously, the ambulance arrived, on board of which Hamlin’s clinical picture worsened.
Hamlin, whose family rushed from the stands to be near him, was taken by ambulance to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center about 30 minutes after collapsing.
The game was temporarily suspended with just under six minutes left in the first quarter, with coaches promptly ending the NFL’s attempts to restart the game.
