Pfizer ready to adapt Omicron vaccine if needed

Omicron, Pfizer Switzerland chief Bruckner: ‘It is not yet clear whether an update against the new variant is needed. We could deliver it in the spring”

Pfizer already said a few weeks ago that the vaccine could be adapted to the new Omicron variant within 100 days

Today, Sabine Bruckner, head of Pfizer Switzerland, told the Swiss newspaper Blick that ‘if necessary, we could deliver the adapted vaccine in the spring.

Subject to approval, of course. But it is not yet clear whether this is necessary.

We are working in two directions: on the one hand, we are investigating the efficacy of the previous variant vaccine.

And in parallel, we are analysing whether an adaptation is necessary and preparing it”.

Protection after Pfizer booster vaccination is already 25 times higher against Omicron

The head of Pfizer Switzerland also points out that “after the booster vaccination, the protection against the Omicron variant in adults is 25 times higher.

This means that the boosting definitely makes sense,” Bruckner concludes, “especially for protection against a serious disease.
