PM Draghi on the Marmolada after the tragedy, around 30 missing
Marmolada, rescue operations resumed this morning, but hopes of finding any missing people alive are almost nil
The Prime Minister, Mario Draghi, and the head of the Civil Protection Department, Fabrizio Curcio, together with local authorities and rescuers, went to the Canazei (Trento) fire brigade barracks this morning to take stock of the situation after the tragedy that occurred yesterday afternoon on Marmorada, when the detachment of a large ice serac caused the death of six people.
Marmolada, the meeting was also attended by the President of the Veneto Region, Luca Zaia
The operations centre for the coordination of rescue and search operations has been set up in the barracks, which resumed this morning after an interruption that became necessary last night due to ‘high temperatures and the risk of further detachments,’ announced the Veneto Region’s councillor for Civil Protection, Gianpaolo Bottacin.
Thirty people are currently missing.
According to rescuers, the chances of finding people still alive are almost nil.
Of the six confirmed victims three are Italians.
A third is from Czechoslovakia, plus a man and a woman not yet identified.
