Poland, free medical and legal assistance for Ukrainian refugees

Ukrainian citizens seeking refuge in Poland can count on free medical care. Some institutions have set up ‘hotlines’ which can be contacted in Ukrainian. Psychological support and work are also offered. The Supreme Council of Lawyers organises legal aid

Poland, assistance to refugees announced by Damian Medical Center

Among others, Ukrainian citizens are offered medical assistance and work.

– The non-acute care unit of Damian Hospital offers free uncompensated treatment for Ukrainians, and in some cases free surgery can be performed. Free treatment by a general practitioner, a paediatrician, a nurse, a nurse practitioner and a professional nurse is also available. At the same time we will ask Ukrainians for work. We will be happy to assist doctors, nurses and health workers in getting their diplomas recognised. We also offer jobs for psychologists, IT professionals, receptionists and call centre staff – says Anastasia Vlasenko, a colleague at the Damiana Medical Centre, in a video posted on the Internet.

Psychological support in Polish and Russian can be received by phone: 22 566 22 27. The psychologist is available at this number on Tuesdays from 8 am to 1 pm, on Wednesdays from 5 pm to 8 pm and on Fridays from 8 am to 1 pm.

– Free treatment in the Medical Center emergency room from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Free antigen test:

Damiana Medical Center also offers free COVID-19 antigen testing for anyone who needs it. List of locations where you can apply:

– Collection point Al. Rzeczypospolitej 5, Warsaw – daily, 8:00 – 16:00 (lunch break 13:00 – 13:30).

– Collection point ul. Nowolipie 18, Warsaw – Monday to Friday, 11:00 – 16:00 (lunch break 13:00 – 13:30).

– Górecka 30, Poznan – Monday to Saturday, 11.00 – 16.00. – Collection point at 1 Two-City Square, Gdańsk – Monday to Friday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. – Collection point vol. Swobodna 60, Wroclaw – Monday to Friday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. – Collection point ul. Jasnogórska 1, Krakow – Monday to Friday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

COVID-19 antigen test – points at airports:

– Warsaw-Chopin Airport (in the arrivals hall, ul. Żwirki i Wigury 1).

– Poznań-Lawica (at the arrivals hall, ul. Bukowska 285).

Places where it is possible to test for COVID-19 antigen from 1 March:

Lux Med Group provides medical care for people coming to Poland from Ukraine

Lux Med Group has also provided medical care. In addition, uncomplicated medical care will be provided to people arriving from Ukraine.

“Support will be provided in all LUX MED facilities in Poland and in 13 LUX MED Group hospitals.

In order to be able to direct people requiring assistance to the nearest facility, a hotline has been established with a Polish-Ukrainian number: 22 45 87 007 and e-mail address ua.kontakt@luxmed.pl” – the company wrote in a press release.

Crisis intervention centre in Krakow (Poland) – psychological assistance

“People who need help can get psychological help directly from the centre.

Available directly from the main phone number: 8b Radziwiłowska Street or by phone at 12 421 92 82 (currently only in Polish).

Do not hesitate to contact us by e-mail for a telephone appointment’ – reads the announcement on the website. The centre operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Poland’s health minister: every citizen of Ukraine can apply for access to medical care

Health Minister Adam Niedzielski said that “every Ukrainian citizen who travels to Poland, fearing for his health and life, can count on access to medical care.

“We will also help the wounded who cannot be helped from the Ukrainian side,” he said.

Poland: vaccination against COVID-19 for Ukrainian citizens

From 25 February 2022, the Minister of Health Protection announced the possibility of vaccinating foreigners of Ukrainian nationality under the national vaccination programme against COVID-19.

“The prerequisite for eligibility for vaccination is possession of a document certifying the person.

ID card or passport or TZTC (Temporary Identity Card for Foreigners).”

Rockets Cancer Foundation

The Rockets Cancer Foundation provides support to women undergoing cancer treatment.

Legal assistance from the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine

The Ukrainian Bar Association organises legal assistance to Ukrainian citizens in selected bar associations.

“The deans of individual district councils of lawyers appoint coordinators to create and organise a programme of assistance to people who need legal support due to the situation in Ukraine,” reads the announcement on the Polish Bar Association’s website.

Legal assistance is also provided by students at universities, including the University of Warsaw.

The District Chamber of Legal Counsel in Gdansk also offers legal assistance to Ukrainian citizens and has established a separate communication channel for this purpose – lawyer Agnieszka Budzinska coordinates legal assistance to the Ukrainian population (e-mail contact: agnieszka.budzynska@oirp.gda.pl).
