A paediatric ambulance for Kiev: this is the goal of two teachers from the Golgi Institute in Breno, who have put their passion for cycling at the disposal of a solidarity fundraiser
Paediatric ambulance for Kiev: 1,300 kilometres of solidarity
Christopher Martin and Ivan Moreschi will cycle from Breno, in the province of Brescia, to the border between Slovakia and the Ukraine, to raise funds for DomaniZaytra Odv, an organisation that has long stood out for its solidarity work in the Ukrainian territory.
‘The idea came from Christopher a couple of months ago,’ Ivan Moreschi, 49, tells the Brescia newspaper.
We wanted to do something for the conflict between Ukraine and Russia and he proposed this ride to give a strong signal for peace.
We got together and found a way to tie this sporting activity to a humanitarian end that would bring concrete benefits’.
This is how the ‘Cycling for Peace’ project was born, the fundraising in favour of DomaniZavtra Odv through the crowdfunding system (www.domanizavtra.com) or through the association’s Iban (reason for payment: Cyclingforpeace2022), to buy a paediatric ambulance that will be donated to a hospital in Kiev.
A specific request for help that came directly from Ukrainian institutions.

“We have divided the journey into stages of a hundred kilometres a day in order not to overdo it, but also to buffer between days where we will find the wind in our favour and those where the wind is against us,” explains Christopher Martin, 32.
We will do the Aprica and Stelvio passes, we will ride a cycle path that follows the river Inn, then the Danube, then Vienna and Bratislava.
The arrival will be in Uzhorod in the Transcarpathian Oblast, on Ukrainian territory’.
Arrival is scheduled between 31 July and 1 August.
All the progress of the two cyclists can be followed on the ‘Cycling for Peace’ Facebook and Instagram profiles.
“The boys are moved by enthusiasm and a genuine desire to do, they will spend days toiling kilometre after kilometre and this is what the association has done over the years,” concludes DomaniZavtra president Diego Simonini.
Over these years we have created an important social fabric, and we hope that this project will inspire others to make themselves available to help, each with their own talents and means at their disposal’.
