The Russian Red Cross will hold a training course for aid workers to work in international missions
Training of aid workers: the Russian Red Cross (RKK) will for the first time conduct an IMPACT training course in Russia to prepare employees and volunteers for international humanitarian missions of various kinds
Some 30 specialists from 11 Russian-speaking National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies will take part in the training.
Training of Aid Workers, the IMPACT event will be held in the Moscow region from 14 to 18 August
The IMPACT (International Mobilisation and Preparation for ACTion) course is designed to prepare staff of National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to work in an international context.
After passing it, delegates will be entered into the general database of the International Movement and in the future may be invited to work in international missions lasting from three months to two years.
The course focuses on the role of the delegate working with the host National Society and other partners of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement to support the population.
Humanitarian (or Aid) workers, the importance of the Russian language in certain crisis scenarios
“The new humanitarian crisis has once again underlined the importance of continuous training of new staff, training of existing specialists and improving joint response plans with the Movement.
The past year has shown a shortage of well-trained Russian-speaking delegates who could take part in international missions.
Therefore, we have decided to organise a course that will help strengthen each National Society’s capacity to respond to disasters and support those in need.
Both locally and internationally,’ said Pavel Savchuk, President of the Russian Red Cross .
The IMPACT course will help participants develop the skills and knowledge needed to respond effectively and efficiently to disasters and crises, especially in cross-cultural and international contexts.
By passing it, staff and volunteers will be better equipped to provide life-saving assistance to people affected by various emergencies around the world”.
Specialists from the National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, the Republic of Belarus, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan will receive training in Moscow.
The course will provide participants with knowledge of the different contexts in which the components of the International Movement work together, as well as the tools available to respond to different situations.
During the training, participants will experience the reality of working as international delegates of the Red Cross and Red Crescent through various practical examples and scenarios.
According to the RKK president, ‘to prepare participants for work in international and intercultural contexts, the course will include modules on cultural awareness and sensitivity, communication skills and security management’ .
In addition, the training will include practical exercises simulating the response to disasters, humanitarian crises or emergencies
“In international missions, a person must take into account many nuances, even if they seem insignificant at first glance.
Therefore, during the training, specialists will be able to put into practice fundamental points such as organising a relief camp, conducting an assessment of people’s needs, managing logistics and communications correctly, and coordinating actions with local authorities and other organisations.
Then, at the end of the course, thanks to a detailed theoretical basis and simulated training, delegates will be able to put their first humanitarian mission into practice,” said Pavel Savchuk.
Colleagues from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) will help the Russian Red Cross prepare and conduct the training course.
