Third dose of vaccine in the US, US health authorities: ‘Maximise protection and extend duration’
Third dose of Covid vaccine in the US starting 20 September
A widespread distribution of the third dose of the Covid vaccine will begin in the United States on 20 September.
This was announced in a statement by the US health authorities, pointing out that ‘available data clearly show that protection against coronavirus infection decreases over time, and coincidentally with the Delta variant we are beginning to see reduced protection against moderate to mild disease’.
The text also states that ‘we have concluded that a booster is necessary to maximise vaccine protection and prolong its duration’.
