Tragedy in Gaza: bombing near Red Cross headquarters

Another tragedy in Gaza: Israeli attack near Red Cross headquarters

In the past few hours, an Israeli bombing near the Red Cross headquarters in Gaza has resulted in the deaths of at least 25 people. This latest episode of violence is part of the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestinian armed groups in the Gaza Strip.

Attack near Red Cross headquarters

According to reports, the attack occurred two nights ago in a residential area near the International Red Cross office in Gaza City. Israeli airstrikes hit several buildings, causing some structures to collapse and resulting in civilian casualties.

Gaza’s Ministry of Health, controlled by Hamas, reported that at least 25 people were killed. Dozens of other civilians were injured, some critically.

International condemnation and calls for investigation

The attack has prompted immediate and strong condemnation from the international community. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) described the incident as “an unacceptable attack on a civilian area” and called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances.

The United Nations also expressed deep concern over the escalation of violence in Gaza, emphasizing the need to respect international humanitarian law and protect civilians. Several countries, including Italy, strongly condemned the attack and urged an immediate ceasefire.

Italian Red Cross condemnation

The President of the Italian Red Cross, Rosario Valastro, also condemned the incident. In a press release on the Italian Red Cross website, he stated, “It is not acceptable to think that war has no rules and that anything goes. As reported by the ICRC, 22 bodies and 45 injured were taken to the nearby field hospital of the Red Cross. This serious incident could have turned into an even larger tragedy considering that near the headquarters there are numerous tents where women, men, and children live who no longer have a home due to the conflict. Just as celebrations in Solferino are underway to celebrate the history of a movement, that of the Red Cross, which has Humanity as the first of the Principles of its work, in Gaza that same Humanity is called into question by yet another disaster of a conflict that does not spare the lives of civilians and humanitarian workers,” concluded the President.

Context of conflict and humanitarian crisis

Unfortunately, this bombing is part of a prolonged conflict and severe humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip. For years, the civilian population has suffered the consequences of clashes that many describe as close to genocide, with a heavy toll of casualties and destruction.

The situation in the Gaza Strip has long been a focal point of international attention due to the severe living conditions of the population, exacerbated by a long-standing blockade and lack of essential infrastructure and services. Humanitarian organizations such as the Red Cross play a crucial role in trying to alleviate the suffering of the civilian population.
