Ukraine emergency, the Italian Red Cross returns to Lviv
Ukraine, the Red Cross leaves again for Lviv. Rocca: “We will bring other vulnerable people to Italy”
The second mission of evacuation of civilians of the Italian Red Cross from Ukraine left Lviv tonight from Rome
The aim this time is to bring about one hundred vulnerable people (children, elderly, disabled, etc.) to Italy.
The CRI convoy of 18 vehicles, including ambulances, minibuses, high containment vehicles, cars and vans for various materials, left Rome for Lviv, via Poland, with 51 people on board, including volunteers, staff, doctors, OSS nurses and RFL operators.
The mission will arrive in Lviv on Monday 4 April at the Ukrainian Red Cross facilities and, after carrying out a health triage and Covid swabs, will return to Italy with the group of frail people.
In the meantime, the ICRC is active in other missions in Romania, Ukraine and alongside the Civil Defence in Poland, with a total deployment of 80 operators.
Red Cross mission in Lviv (Ukraine), President Francesco Rocca’s statement
“As promised – underlines Francesco Rocca, President of the Italian Red Cross – our commitment in favour of the Ukrainian Red Cross and the population affected by this terrible war continues and grows.
We will bring to Italy other vulnerable people, with different problems and stories, reported to us by volunteers on the ground because, in that difficult context, they would not have been able to receive adequate care or support.
In addition to this, we are now constantly sending out convoys of aid, an average of 2 convoys a week for a total of over 300 tonnes of aid so far, and starting to build a logistics hub in Suceava (Romania), on the border with Ukraine.
All of this is possible thanks above all to the great solidarity of companies and individuals who continue to support us”.
