War in Ukraine: the work of rescuers in Kiev in 28 incredible shots
The war in Ukraine has called for superhuman efforts from rescuers, who are risking their lives even more than usual
The Russian army has been bombing Kiev for 20 days.
Because of the war unleashed by Russian President Vladimir Putin against Ukraine, residential areas and civilians in the city are suffering untold hardship, and dying.
Rescuers in Ukraine are clearing debris every day, securing bombed out buildings and saving the lives of those caught up in the conflict
Photographer Pavlo Petrov, who has lived in Kiev since 24 February and has never spent the night at home, showed the heroic work of the capital’s rescuers.
The photos were published by Reporters, and are very moving and narrative.
The photographer reported that many Kiev rescuers live in surrounding towns and are on duty while their relatives in Chernihiv, Bucha and Irpen wait for the Russian bombardment.
Rescuers in general resent being called ‘heroes’, but in some cases it is really hard to refrain from calling them such or finding alternative definitions.
