Revisiting the origins of first aid. If you happen to be in London, don't miss the St. John Museum
It all started 1,000 years ago with the foundation of a hospital to take care of pilgrims. Known as Hospitallers, the men and women working there guaranteed care for anyone who needed it, without distinction of race or faith.
After the Crusaders captured Jerusalem, the Hospitallers took on a military role and became known as the Knights of the Order of St John of Jerusalem. Since then the Order of St John has kept up its charitable role, organising numerous humanitarian projects worldwide and represents the origins of modern first aid, as we understand it today.
The St. John Museum is located in the centre of London. Using displays, paintings and exhibits, it is an incredible journey amongst the valuable memorabilia of the history of emergency and first aid. Entrance is free.
